Technical Fellows Mentorship Program FAQs 

  1. What is the purpose of the BWXT Technical Fellows Mentorship Program? 

The purpose of the BWXT Technical Fellows Mentorship Program is to foster knowledge transfer, skill development and innovation by pairing experienced technical fellows with mentees who are rising technology stars. The program aims to cultivate leadership, enhance technical acumen and promote cross-disciplinary collaboration within the organization. 

  1. Who is eligible to apply for the mentorship program? 

To be eligible to apply for the mentorship program, an individual must be a full-time employee of BWXT who is employed in a technical role for at least one consecutive year as of the date of application, or an affiliate of BWXT Technical Services Group, Inc. (TSG) who meets the eligibility requirements. 

  1. Who is not eligible for the program? 

Ineligible applicants include leased employees, interns, seasonal workers, contract workers, independent contractors, consultants, temporary employees, part-time employees and bargaining employees. Additionally, anyone who has received disciplinary action within the past 12 months or is currently on a Performance Improvement Plan (P.I.P.) is also not eligible. 

  1. What are the responsibilities of mentees in the program? 

Mentees are expected to commit to a ten-month mentorship program, actively engage in the program by attending regular meetings once per month, provide feedback, submit a final report summarizing their achievements and learnings, obtain direct manager approval to participate, identify a current technical challenge or opportunity for improvement to collaborate on with their mentor and be available for the Virtual Mentor & Mentee Orientation kickoff meeting. 

  1. How do I apply for the mentorship program? 

Interested candidates can apply by filling out an application during the designated application window on myBWXT, the myBWXT app or their local network.  

  1. What is the selection procedure for mentees? 

The selection procedure for mentees involves a review by the BWXT Technical Fellows Mentorship Selection Committee, which includes cross-organizational representation. The committee will evaluate each application for qualifications and potential, and shortlisted candidates may be invited for interviews. Selected mentees will be notified via email with detailed information about the program and next steps. 

  1. What is considered a technical role? 

A technical role typically refers to positions that require specialized knowledge in areas such as science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM). While the specific definitions of technical roles are not detailed in the files provided, it generally encompasses roles that involve hands-on technical work or technical decision-making responsibilities. 

  1. What kind of degree do I need to have to apply to the mentorship program? 

Applicants must either be currently enrolled in or hold a degree in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) or Safety field to be eligible for the mentorship program. 

  1. How will success be measured in the mentorship program? 

Success will be measured by reaching predefined goals and objectives, using specific performance indicators or milestones.
