Technical Fellows Mentorship Guidelines

BWXT Technical Fellows Mentorship Program 

Guidelines



Purpose

To foster knowledge transfer, skill development, and innovation by pairing experienced technical fellows with mentees who are either first-line managers or rising technology stars. The program aims to cultivate leadership, technical acumen, and cross-disciplinary collaboration within the organization.


Eligibility

  • To be an eligible applicant, the individual must be a full-time employee of BWX Technologies, Inc. (“BWXT or the “Company”) (as used herein, the “Company” includes its parents and any subsidiaries, affiliates and related entities) employed in a technical role for at least one (1) consecutive year as of the date of application to the BWXT Technical Fellows Mentorship Program, or an affiliate of BWXT Technical Services Group, Inc. (“TSG”) who is employed at a TSG project site and otherwise satisfies the eligibility requirements.
  • For the purpose of this program, eligible employee does not include:
    • Any leased employee or individual classified by the Company as an intern, Seasonal Field Technician, contract worker, independent contractor, consultant, temporary employee, part-time casual employee or bargaining unit employee.
    • Any individual who performs services for the Company but who is paid by a temporary or other employment or staffing agency for the period during which such individual is paid by such agency, whether the individual is determined by the Internal Revenue Service or others to be a common law employee of the Company.
  • Must be currently enrolled or hold a degree in a S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or Safety field.
  • Must not have received disciplinary action within the past 12 months or currently be on a Performance Improvement Plan (“PIP”). 


Mentee Categories

  • Management/Leadership:
    • Demonstrates a focus on leadership development, enhancing technical decision-making, and aligning managerial responsibilities with technical strategies.
    • Places emphasis on career development by utilizing opportunities for growth and mentorship.
  • Rising Technology Stars:
    • Demonstrates a focus on developing and nurturing rising stars within our technical team.
    • Provides high-potential individuals with opportunities to learn how to collaborate effectively with others and think creatively.
    • Fosters an environment where they can grow their technical expertise, develop innovative problem-solving skills, and advance their careers within the technical track.


Mentee Responsibility

  • Commit to a 10-month mentorship program.
  • Actively engage in the program and attend regular meetings once per month.
  • Contribute feedback regarding the program and participate in periodic evaluations. 
  • Submit a final report summarizing achievements and development at the end of the program.
  • Identify one current technical challenge or opportunity for improvement and collaborate with mentor to implement a solution by the end of the mentorship.
  • Ensure availability to participate in the Virtual Mentor & Mentee Orientation kickoff meeting.


Mentor Responsibility

  • Commit to a 10-month mentorship program.
  • Provide feedback regarding the program and participate in periodic evaluations. 
  • Submit a final report summarizing achievements and development at the end of the program.
  • Mentors must be in the Technical Fellows program.
  • Ensure availability to participate in the Virtual Mentor & Mentee Orientation kickoff meeting.
  • Share knowledge, help resolve issues, and support goal completion of the Mentee throughout the program.


Application Process

Interested candidates will complete and submit an application during the application window. The form includes questions regarding the candidate’s background, resume, goals, and reasons for applying to the mentorship. Applications will be accepted via Survey Monkey for a two-week period. 


Selection Procedure

The BWXT Technical Fellows Mentorship Selection Committee will include cross-organizational representation from within BWXT. The committee will conduct a thorough review of each application to assess the qualifications and potential of the candidate. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for interviews to further evaluate their qualification and suitability for the program. Selected mentees will be notified via email and provided with detailed information about the program and next steps.


Pairing

The number of mentees will fluctuate from year to year based on how many Technical Fellow mentors are available for pairing. A mentor may not align perfectly with a mentee’s specific career path, but they will be assigned based on relevant expertise, skill set and the potential to offer valuable insights and guidance.


Terms & Conditions

Participation in this program is entirely voluntary. Participants should work with their cost center manager to appropriately charge their time. While this program does not guarantee future promotion or further development, it offers a valuable opportunity for professional growth. Participants must manage their time and performance effectively to ensure that their primary work responsibilities are not adversely impacted. All discussions and information shared within the mentorship program must remain confidential. All participants are expected to adhere to the company’s code of conduct and professional behavior standards.
